Outage

Postby 10x10room » Mon Oct 22, 2012 2:59 pm

Playconclave.com is currently down due to a problem with our hosting provider. We're working with them right now to determine the cause and fix the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience, and we'll let you know as soon as the situation is resolved.

ETA: It's looking likely that the problem is with Amazon, and that many other sites are affected as well.

Just a quick update: Amazon's services are back online, and we're waiting for our database to be restored.

Hmmm, I haven't seen any change at http://status.aws.amazon.com/ in over an hour.

(And I was wrong when I said Amazon was back up.)

I'm sitting around obsessing with this because the web site that is 90% of my job is also down.

Although some services hosted by Amazon are still offline, the game is among those that are back. We're keeping an eye on things to make sure, but please let us know if you run into any problems.

Over the years we've generally had a good experience with Amazon (and Heroku, the service we use that's built on top of it). After today, we'll be taking another look at what we can do to avoid future outages on our budget.

Amazon has had some major failures recently, hitting smaller customers particularly hard.

Are you able to afford their redundant service offering (using both East and West data enters)?

More to the point - do you get any refunds for downtime?

In both cases it's something we're looking into with Heroku, the service we use that's built on top of AWS.
